Born in Paris in 1972, Gaspard Yurkievich is fast becoming the designer of choice to fashion forward youths who revere urban street clothing with a Parisian flair. This year, marks over ten years of independence in crafting Yurkievich’s namesake brand and collections.
After completing studies at Studio Berçot in 1997, Yurkievich won the Festival d’Hyères, and subsequently launched his first prêt-a-porter women’s collection in 1998. Since then, his outlandish catwalk shows have become an innovative platform for illustrating his sexy, contemporary and urban visions. Noted for a penchant to challenge the status quo, Yurkievich has called upon numerous artists to help realize his creative endeavours. He has worked with such talents as the architect Didier Faustino, artist Edouard Leve, actress Elodie Bouchez, and musicians such as Matthew Herbert.
In 2003, Yurkievich launched his men’s prêt-a-porter and shoe collections. Faithful to the trademarked impression of Gaspard Yurkievich, the men’s collection has since developed considerably, and is revered for proposing an eclectic range of dress shirts, t-shirts and revisited masculine wardrobe classics.
Yurkievich’s willingness to expand both his business and creative ventures has spurred the development of fashion accessories. Widely distributed throughout France and internationally as well, women’s shoes are fashioned to complement each collection in 40-plus styles. Considered a full collection on its own, the “fantasy” hosiery collection is specifically designed to accompany the shifting vision of each seasonal collection. Bags are equally present both for men and women.
Since his fashion beginnings, Yurkievich has keenly participated in peripheral business collaborations. Examples from past alliances include designs for De Beers, Jaguar, Toyota, Van Cleef&Arpels, L’Oréal, MAC Cosmetics, Evian, Eram, Les Galeries Lafayette, Monoprix, France Arno, Swarovski, and la Bagagerie. In 2008, he was appointed as Artistic Director of the French brand RODIER.
