Hailed by Conde Nast Traveler as an “Asian design sensation” and trendsetting Wallpaper* as an “Upcoming Talent”, Fu’s prolific work largely consists of sensuous designs for unique hospitality venues in Hong Kong, London, Shanghai, Singapore and Tokyo. In 2000, Fu established AFSO as a specialised boutique design studio that focuses on creating distinct projects.
AFSO's philosophy is one that firstly seeks to generate an optimal layout for space. Once functional refinement is accomplished, inspiration is drawn from historical references and reinterpreted using the studio's unique design vocabulary to garner startlingly emotional and playful consequences.
Notable hospitality projects include The Upper House Hotel, Piacere Italian Restaurant and Nadaman Japanese Restaurant for Shangri-la Tokyo, and Cassia Chinese Restaurant at Singapore's Capella Resort. Fu is also noted for designing Jia Shanghai's wonderfully eclectic lobby, and the Agnes b. La Loggia Flagship Store in Hong Kong, as well as the private residence of actress Michelle Yeoh. Beyond spatial environments, Fu has designed the i24 Gizmo for Apple's ubiquitous iPod and a concept music chair recently launched at 100% Design Tokyo.
Fu's studio is currently working on a number of highly anticipated projects, including Fullerton Bay Hotel, as well as a private art gallery commission in Hong Kong. Born in 1975, Fu left Hong Kong for education in the UK at the age of 14. He graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2000. In 2004, Fu returned to his native Hong Kong, and has since utilized the city's internationalism as an important foundation for his burgeoning business.
